ABOUT ME

Edinburgh born, I grew up on the outskirts of Glasgow before going off to school in the Yorkshire Dales. I then went on to study landscape architecture at Edinburgh College of Art graduating in 1980.

Since then I’ve worked in advertising, renovated properties, run a backpackers hostel & public house, fitted stoves and chimneys, kept a 10 acre smallholding and been a full-time athlete.

More recently I have moved to the Aberdeenshire village of Torphins where I now run a small gallery and coffee house, Platform 22, in partnership with my wife and am gradually trying to resume work as an artist and designer.

In addition to running the gallery I do of course now also work as a humanist celebrant. I started as a celebrant for the HSS in July 2004 and since then have conducted around 100 ceremonies per year.

Most of my work involves funerals, however, since 2007 I have been able to conduct legally recognized marriages and the number of weddings I conduct has steadily risen bringing some much appreciated variety to my work.

Away from work my interests lie in storytelling, astronomy and trying to restore my motorbike! From time to time I visit local groups and schools to give storytellings or talks about astronomy.
